Stakeholders workshop in Vienna: bicycling is easier with Climate-fit!

Austrian stakeholders were glad to discover new climate services on the 18th of December in Vienna. Basically, Bike Citizen is an application that supports citizens in their bicycling traffic planning.

As part of the active mobility sector of Climate-fit, new features of Bike Citizen Analytics were added and presented to representatives of the City of Vienna, including the department for environmental protection, the department for urban development and planning (also responsible for mobility strategies), and the municipal directorate for the coordination of climate protection.

More exactly, these feature aim at including climate indices as additional layers into the user partner’s tool : maps, figures, tables were presented in order to demonstrate how sensitivity cyclists in Vienna respond to variations in meteorological conditions and on Vienna’s climatic attractiveness for cycling now and in future.

Participants were particularly impressed by the identified potentials to increase the bicycle traffic volume in case the weather and climate sensitivity of cyclists in Vienna is reduced. In the interactive part of the workshop, they gave feedback on the usefulness and applicability of the service for their own work. They were also asked to score the single components of the service and they provided valuable suggestions for further improvements. In a focus group setting, they also assessed potential socio-economic impacts of the service. The gained feedback represents important input for further enhancements of the service within the replication phase.
